Protective Face Masks

Protect your loved ones, your staff and society from Coronavirus

At AH fixings we want to support our customers, staff and communities in the best way possible. Working with our partners during this difficult time we have introduced the supply of protective face masks. We understand there has been a significant shortage of this protective wear but we are in a position to provide these at affordable prices.

As lock-down measures are eased and we start to integrate back into society and our workplace, it’s imperative we do not allow the virus to spread. Therefore, we recommend the use of face masks to protect yourself and others as per government advice.

We only provide masks which have a minimum of 95% filtration efficiency. Ensure you're purchasing a quality product from a reliable source.

Why use a Protective Face Mask?

Protective masks provide protection against airborne and liquid transmitted diseases. These filtering masks are tested to CE standards and meet the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the event of outbreaks of SARS, Avian Flu, and Coronavirus, the CDC and Government recommend their use.

These hygiene respirators are half-masks that cover the nose and mouth. The mask is kept in place by two elastic headbands, and also have a small metal section that sits across the bridge of the nose when in use.

Face masks are easy to use and can be worn by anyone for protection against the coronavirus. They are lightweight and non-bulky, ensuring comfortable use. The secure fit over the face prevents shifting, and allows for a greater range of movement. It is ideal for daily use, for wear at home and at work, and can be utilised during travel outside – to the store, the chemist, and commuting, etc.

Benefits of using the FFP2/KN95 Protective Face Mask

Can be used 2-3 times, and a maximum of 6-8 hours, if care is taken to not contaminate them and they are hung out in a well ventilated area between uses – click here for guidance

Filtration efficiency ≥ 95%  |  Flat folding  |  5 layer design

The 5 layer (enhanced compared to cheaper 4 layer versions sold by others) fabric provides protection against airborne allergens, pathogens and pollen that are greater than 0.3 microns in size.

The filtration system has an efficiency of equal to or greater than 95%, providing high protection for respiratory health.

These masks are disposable, which leads to better hygiene and reduced contact with infections. Since the mask folds flat, it is easy to store and convenient for travel.

How to use Face Masks

  • Wash your hands before touching the mask, then unfold the mask

  • Hold the mask with your palm with the nose piece at your fingertips, hang straps freely either side below your hands

  • Place the mask on the face and under your chin, then pull the elastic band behind the ears and untwist the straps, positioning it low on your nose

  • Using both hands, mould the nose piece by pushing downward and outward on both sides with your fingertips

  • Check your mask is fitted correctly by placing both hands completely over the mask and exhale sharply not disturbing the position of the mask. If air leaks around your nose adjust the nosepiece as described above.

KN95 and Government Guidelines

The Word Health Organisation advises that an EU standard FFP2 (or equivalent) should be worn by healthcare workers that are performing any airborne-risk procedures to protect themselves from the coronavirus. However, please be aware these masks are not sold for medical use.

Please also be aware of falsely certified masks on the market as reported by the European Safety Federation. Ensure you're purchasing from a legitimate source such as AH Fixings.

Additional Protection Methods

As well as using protective masks please follow the suggested hygiene practices to protect yourself from viruses, including the Coronavirus.

  • Frequently wash your hands, and use alcohol-based cleanser.

  • Cover your mouth and nose while coughing and sneezing.

  • Dispose of used tissues in a covered bin.

  • Keep a distance of at least 2 metres when in social situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

KN95 vs N95 vs FFP2, are they the same?

They all offer a very similar level of protection – stopping particles larger than 0.3 microns in size equal to over 95%. The KN95 is a Chinese equivalent standard offering similar protection as the N95 (USA) and FFP2 (EU) masks – click here to see the report.

What is the difference between a 4 layer and 5 layer FFP2 / KN95 mask?

FFP2 / KN95 is the minimum quality standard set for these kinds of respiratory masks. This requires the masks to filter particles of 0.3 microns in size equal to 95% of particles. However, the 5 layer mask will usually exceed this and provide greater levels of filtration with an additional meltblown fabric layer. At AH Fixings we choose to provide only the superior 5 layer masks.

Do they have approval?

On April 3, 2020 the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) issued a new order making KN95 respirators eligible for authorisation if certain criteria are met – click here to read more. They are also approved for use by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Are these masks washable?

No. When the mask becomes wet, the pores expand which will allow larger particles to enter meaning the mask become much less effective. If the mask becomes wet or dirty it is recommended not to use it again. At AH Fixings we are working to provide an alternate type of mask which is reusable however it does not have the same filtration efficiency as the FFP2 / KN95.

Can these face masks be reused?

These masks are designed to be disposable after one use. However with short, light use, they can be used 2-3 times if care is taken to not contaminate them and they are hung out in a well ventilated area between uses. It is not recommend to use one mask for more than 6-8 hours in total. Click here for guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) regarding the reuse of the N95 which is a very similar mask. If you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 dispose of the mask immediately after contact.

Where are they made?

KN95 masks are made mostly in China. The KN95 is a Chinese equivalent standard for the N95 (USA) and FFP2 (EU) masks.

Where can I buy a coronavirus face mask?

Right here. With many sellers taking advantage of the situation, we want to offer these at the lowest price possible. Instead of paying £8 – £12, pay as little as £0.29 each.

Or take advantage of even cheaper prices with pack quantities ensuring all your loved ones are protected.

What level of protection do they provide?

The FFP2 / KN95 mask is effective at stopping 95% of particles in the air protecting against allergens, pollen and pathogens. The are approved for use by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
